Who We Are
Out & About Lafayette is a community website for the Out & About Lafayette Facebook group in Lafayette, Louisiana. We help locals discover events, meetups, and things to do around town.

What Data We Collect
If you browse the site (no login required)
- Page views: We record which pages are visited, along with the date, referrer URL, and a truncated IP address. This is stored in our own database — we do not use Google Analytics or any third-party tracking service.
- No cookies are set for anonymous visitors beyond a standard PHP session cookie if you submit a form (e.g., the event submission form).
If you log in with Facebook
When you click "Log In" we redirect you to Facebook's authorization page. If you approve, Facebook sends us:
- Your Facebook user ID — a numeric identifier unique to our app
- Your name — as displayed on your Facebook profile
- Your email address — if available on your Facebook account
- Your profile picture URL — a link to your current Facebook profile photo
We store this information in our database to create your member account. We never receive or store your Facebook password.
Activity data (logged-in members)
- Event check-ins: Which events you mark "I'm Going" for
- Points and badges: Your engagement score and earned achievements
- Bio: An optional self-written description on your profile (you control this)
How We Use Your Data
- To display your name and avatar on the leaderboard and event check-in counts
- To track your badges, streaks, and points
- To show community engagement stats on the site
- To operate and improve the site
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party. We do not send marketing emails. We do not use your data for advertising.
Data Sharing
Your display name and profile picture are visible to other visitors on the leaderboard, event check-in counts, and your member profile page. Your email address is never displayed publicly.
We do not share data with third parties. All data is stored on our own server in the United States.
Cookies
We use a single PHP session cookie (PHPSESSID) to keep you logged in during your visit. This cookie is:
- HttpOnly (not accessible to JavaScript)
- Secure (only sent over HTTPS)
- SameSite=Lax
- Deleted when you close your browser (session cookie)
We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or any third-party cookies.
Data Retention
Your member account and activity data are retained as long as your account is active. Anonymous page-view analytics are retained indefinitely but contain no personally identifiable information.
Your Rights — Data Deletion
You can request complete deletion of your account and all associated data at any time:
- Email us: Send a request to admin@outandaboutlafayette.com from the email associated with your Facebook account
- Via Facebook: Remove our app from your Facebook settings at Facebook → Settings → Apps and Websites. This triggers an automatic deletion request to our system.
When your data is deleted, we remove: your member profile, all check-ins, all points and badge records, and any bio text you entered. This action is permanent and cannot be undone.
Children's Privacy
This site is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
